On your way; you may spot goats on the Argan trees, stop in one of the women Argan cooperative to learn about how they extract the argan oil and other argan products. Once in Essaouira, explore the city, listen to the Gnawa music and if you want taste some fresh fish straight away from the Atlantic Coast.
MARRAKESH to ESSAOUIRA:
In this excursion from Marrakesh to Essaouira, you drive through the Haouz plain with orchards and agricultural plots, and then pass by the Argan forest. You might see goats on the Argan trees. The nuts of this tree are used to produce many argan beauty products. Continue to the fortified, white washed fishing village of Essaouira located on a rocky promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of Morocco’s most charming towns with impressive ramparts that give the city a fortified look. Essaouira is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this well-preserved former Portuguese stronghold and trading outpost on the Atlantic has in recent years become something of an artists’ colony. It is famous for being the setting of Orson Welles’ 1952 “Othello. Upon arrival, Visit the enchanting streets and alleys of laid-back Essaouira. Once known as Mogador, Essaouira blue and white medina is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This stronghold is also famous for woodcarving and handicrafts.
Walk in its beautiful medina and its old Jewish quarter .Visit the street of the thuya wood workers, the ocean-side ramparts. Discover the Mellah (Jewish quarter) and the Scalla where Orson Wells shot scenes from his film Othello. Tour the port to have a glimpse into the fishing industry in Morocco, Walk in the port; you may see fishermen bringing their catches of the day. You may like to have lunch in one of the fish restaurants or walk in the sandy beach.
