We will first stop on the archaeological site, which stands on the Koutoubia Mosque and minaret for a comprehensive introduction to the history of Marrakech.
We take the spectacular historical Bab Agnaou gate.It’s the only surviving example of the city’s original stone gatehouses. Here,we visit the 12th century Kasbah with its food market, bakeries and narrow alleyways.
You will discover the 16th century Saadian Tombs.This Royal necoroplis remains well hidden and accessible only via a small entrance behind the Kasbah mosque.
Then We procceed to visit the remains of El Badi palace built in the 16th century and admire the marvelous pulpit made in 1137 for the main mosque of Marrakech by the best cabinetmakers of Andalusia. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has participated in the restoration of this amazing piece of craftwork.
We will invite you to enter the 19th century Bahia palace and discover the intricate work done by the local artisans on wood, plaster and tile to decorate this splendid home of the Moroccan prime minister at that time.
Our exploration will end with a stroll inside the Jewish quarter to visit the historical Lezama synagogue (if open), built in 1492 by Sephardic Jews expelled from Spain and considered the oldest functioning synagogue in Morocco.
